Dr Madeleine Castro has a BA (Hons) in Psychology and Sociology from Liverpool Hope University, an MA from Goldsmiths University of London and PhD in Sociology from the University of York. Her doctoral project looked at individual accounts of transcendent experiences. She is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Leeds Beckett University.

Dr Hannah Gilbert has a BA (Hons) in Anthropology from Durham University, and a PhD in Sociology from the University of York. Her doctoral project looked at representations and experiences of the spirit world in British spirit mediumship. She recently retrained in psychotherapy and works for a mental health charity.
